November 20, 2024 at Noon CAT (Pre-recorded – South Africa)

November 20, 2024 at 5 pm JST (Pre-recorded – Japan)

This presentation will include bottom liner system design and slope analyses at different stages of construction and operation of heap leach pads. It will also include geomembrane selection, process quality control, and construction and operation troubleshooting of heap leach pads.

Humberto Alvarado is a senior civil engineer at Anddes Perú. He graduated from the National University of Engineering and has 25 years of experience in construction and mining projects as a construction supervisor, quality assurance, design reviewer, senior project engineer, and senior civil engineer integrating disciplines such as mechanics, hydraulics and geotechnics. Humberto has advised projects in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru. He has also led construction details and lining systems for tailings dams, leach pads, mining stockpiles and waste rock dumps, in addition to leak solution and collection systems. Humberto has provided operations and constructability support as part of the EoR experts on projects in Peru.

Waldo Huallanca is an operational manager at Anddes Perú. He is a civil engineer who graduated from the National University of Engineering, with a master’s degree in geotechnics from the same university, and an MBA with a specialization in project management from ESAN University. He has 15 years of experience in mining projects in Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. He has led the development of geotechnical designs for civil and mining works and has planned geotechnical investigations for the design of structures such as earth dams, processing plants, crushers, access roads, tailings storage facilities, waste dumps, heap leach pads, and landfills. His experience also includes conducting field and laboratory tests. Additionally, he has participated in foundation analysis studies, slope stability analysis, seepage analysis, liquefaction potential assessment, development of numerical models, and geosynthetic design. He also has experience in safety reviews of tailings dams following the “Dam Safety Guidelines” of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA).
